Dr. Katja Freistein is a political scientist and received her doctorate from Goethe University in Frankfurt. She has taught and conducted research at the universities of Münster, Duisburg-Essen, Bielefeld, Frankfurt a.M. and St. Petersburg. She is currently head of the research group "Pathways and Mechanisms of Global Cooperation" at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg at the University of Duisburg-Essen. There she conducts research on international

organisations, global inequalities and sociological theories in international

relations. Another area of her current research is the analysis of right-wing

populist narratives and images, with a focus on their affective persuasiveness

and impact in political discourse.
